Nu er der igen tid til Nordisk Orkestermusik Unions årsmöde. I forbindelse med National Wind Music Days in Pori har vi valgt at holde mødet i Pori, Finland.

Som I kan se i programmet for event’en er den fyldt med mange spændende indslag. Der findes også info om bilettpas samt hotel og overnatning. De respektive medlemsorganisationer bestiller selv rejse, billetter samt overnatning.

Riku Puumalainen
Riku Puumalainen is a brass instrument teacher and wind orchestra conductor in Rantasalmi.
He has long been interested in expanding the sound of his instrument using electronic effects.
He has explored the use of loop effects and applies them both as a basis for creating polyphonic pieces with monophonic brass instruments and as a pedagogical tool for a wide range of
purposes, with beginners and advanced students alike. At the Wind Music Days, Riku will
demonstrate different uses of loop effects and explain what teachers need in order to adopt
looping as a pedagogical tool.

Markku Ollila
Markku Ollila is a brass lecturer at the Palmgren Conservatory in Satakunta. He is mainly
responsible for individual instruction of low brass instruments and some wind orchestras. In
addition to his main duties, he conducts the Pori Volunteer Fire Brigade Band and sings in the
Pori Philharmonic Choir and the vocal ensemble Cantica Saeculorum. Outside music, Markku is
an aspiring firefighter and is actively involved in the emergency unit of the Pori Volunteer Fire
Brigade. He is also an enthusiastic association activist, with the National Wind Music Days in
Pori serving as a prime example. The main organiser of the event is the Satakunta Wind Music
Association, founded last spring, of which Ollila is a founding member and chairperson.

Escape room games that have sparked enthusiasm in music history classes are now adapted for
wind orchestras. How is a game designed? What challenges arise when designing a game for a
large ensemble?

Hanna Nikamaa – music pedagogue and Master of Music, teaching horn, wind orchestras, and
musicianship in several Finnish music institutes.
Percussion and Its Use in the Wind Orchestra

The lecture addresses the functioning and organisation of the percussion section in a wind
orchestra, and what playing in a wind orchestra means from the perspective of a percussionist
and drum set player.

Presenter:
Janne Ikonen – pedagogue, musician, conductor, and composer. He has created approximately
400 compositions and arrangements.

Aura Brass Band & Finnish Navy Band Brass Quintet (V5)

Aura Brass Band of the Turku Conservatory aims to promote European brass band culture in
Finland and to encourage both young people and adults to engage with brass music. The
ensemble consists of enthusiastic amateurs as well as professional musicians and students. At
the Wind Music Days, Aura Brass Band performs brass band repertoire as a ceremonial opening
to the Navy Band Brass Quintet’s animation music match.
In the Great Animation Music Match, the Navy Band Brass Quintet performs the most
memorable music from animated films and TV series from Europe, America, and Asia. Music
from Super Mario, Disney classics, and Studio Ghibli comes to life through five brass players and percussion. Additional colour is provided by visiting musicians from the Turku Conservatory.

Blås så in i Norden! – Project Presentation with Children and Youth (in Swedish)

Blåsarsymfonikerna has extensive experience in performing and working with young musicians of all ages. Their best-known event is the annual “Instrument Feast”, where 150 musicians aged 10 and up, playing the same instrument, gather for three days of workshops, masterclasses,
seminars, and concerts.
The main purpose of the project Blås så in i Norden! is to create new music for wind players and
to enable ensemble playing at different skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. The
project is carried out in Åland and Sweden, with a new Finnish collaboration partner, composer
Ilari Hylkilä.
The session is conducted as a rehearsal with young Finnish wind players, together with
Blåsarsymfonikerna, rehearsing and performing Hylkilä’s new work Nordic Sea Legends
(premiered February 2026) and The Triumph of Light (premiered May 2025 in over ten locations in
Sweden and Åland).
